The coffee-growing region of Chiapas, located in southwestern Mexico, is one of the most important in the country. Bordering Tabasco and with a population of 5.5 million, Chiapas is home to 88 coffee-growing districts. In these districts, more than 70,000 families are dedicated to coffee growing, cultivating 180,000 hectares of coffee.
The most common varietals in this region include Typica, Caturra, Bourbon, Catimor 129 and Mundo Novo. Chiapas is characterized by its geographic and climatic diversity, which allows it to produce some of the best coffees in the country, ranking first as a coffee region in Mexico.
