The Apaneca mountain range in western El Salvador is a volcanic region that is home to some of the most important coffee plantations in the country. With an area of 4,289.95 km² and a population of 1.26 million, the Apaneca-Ilamatepec coffee region has 37 coffee-growing districts where more than 9,740 families cultivate more than 70,881 hectares of Arabica coffee.
Apaneca-Ilamatepec is the main coffee region in El Salvador, producing 53% of the country's coffee. The most widely grown varietals include Pacas, Bourbon, Pacamara, and others that reflect the richness of this volcanic region.
